Hailing from the nation’s capital are Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers – a band of four nineteen year old gals with a penchant for plaid and a knack for crafting gritty, nostalgic grunge pop.
The band formed at a year 10 sleepover after watching School of Rock. After turning heads in triple j’s Unearthed High competition, they have gone on to share stages with some of the country’s most exciting names, all the while navigating adolescent pressures and graduating high school.
Performing alongside acts such as Polish Club, Northeast Party House, Alex Lahey, Press Club, Spiderbait, and WAAX, plus scoring a national support run with Slowly Slowly on their ‘Jellyfish’ tour, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers have their Doc Martens firmly planted at the forefront of Australia’s indie scene.
Last year also delivered a fruitful festival run including Groovin’ The Moo, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Falls Festival, Lost Paradise, Spilt Milk, and Stonefest. As well as an at-capacity showcase during BIGSOUND which landed them atop many a list of ones to watch.
Their 2019 breakout single, the alt-rock infused ‘I Like That You Like That’, showcased a darker and more mature evolution of sound for the four-piece, and was followed up by ‘See You In A Bit (I Still Care)’ – a tenacious and honest ode to love-hate relationships.
Now, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers reveal their first single of the new year, ‘Desk Chair’, which follows a theme of self-sabotage and chasing mundane forms of affection through the personal insecurities experienced during one’s teen years.
With a whole lot of love for both each other and their audiences, and a whole lot more in store, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers are a name you need to know.
